Statement of Faith (Doctrine)
A faithful and valid member of
the Vision Baptist Church of Leduc is a person who believes in, carries out, and
promotes the historic Baptist tenets based on the Holy Scriptures and in the
main is one who:
1. Acknowledges that he is a
sinner (Rom. 3:23) and must first repent of his sins and is born again by the
grace of God through faith in the plenary substitution of the death of our Lord
Jesus Christ for the justification of the before a Holy God. The new birth is
instantaneous and non-repetitive and is an unmerited favor, which God, in His
goodness and mercy provide for us.(Rom. 10:9 -10)
2. Is baptized (immersed) as
required to demonstrate, outwardly, and visibly, the inward change that has
taken effect in the life of a believer. (Acts 2:38,41)
3. Enters into fellowship with
a body of believers of like faith as is exhorted by the scriptures.(Acts
2:41-42)
4. Partakes of the elements at
the Lord's Supper as instructed by our Lord in remembrance of Him. (1 Cor. 11:23
- 34)
5. Is concerned primarily with
the lost condition of the unsaved and makes every effort, as the Lord enables to
make the good tidings of salvation known to all people. (Acts
1:8)
6. Is concerned with every
aspect and area of the well being of his fellow man. (Acts
24:16)
7. Believes the Bible is
divinely inspired and preserved (through the King James version, 1611) and is
the authoritative Word of God, free from error in every respect and therefore is
unquestioned in authority, sufficient in instruction unto salvation and in
proper conduct. It is the final authority on all matters pertaining to doctrine,
church government, and the manner in which these will be affected. (Prov. 22:12;
II Tim.3:16)
8. "Contends earnestly for the
faith" as the scriptures instruct. (Jude 3)
9. Exposes error in accordance
with God's Word.; heresy; promotion of unscriptural literature; behavior not
consistent with scriptural deportment; and other areas as found necessary, from
time to time, to be dealt with by the fellowship. (Eph. 5:11)
10. Believes in God the
Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. These three compose the Godhead
and have perfect unity in purpose and design. They are the same in essence, in
attributes, and in perfection yet each with a distinct personality and office.
(Matt. 28:19; Matt.3:16-17)
11. Believes in the miraculous
virgin birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Matt. 1:23)
12. Believes in the absolute
deity and sinless humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Heb. 4:15; John
1)
13. Acknowledges our Lord
Jesus Christ as saviour and Lord on a personal basis. (Rom. 10:9-10,
13)
14. Believes in the bodily
resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and that He ascended into Heaven, and is
at this moment in time, seated at the right hand of God the father, making
intercession for His own who, from time to time, walk in disobedience, but who
in genuine repentance for their wayward actions and thoughts, may come to Him
and seek pardon, but should be made aware that there is a truth in chastisement
unto death. (Heb. 12:7-25)
15. Looks forward in
anticipation to the day in which our Lord Jesus Christ, in His own appointed
time, will return bodily and visibly to this earth to take up with Him, His own
who will remain ever thus with Him. (I Thess. 4:13-18)
16. Believes that the work of
the Holy Spirit is to enlighten, convict, sanctify, restore and to endue with
power each believer in order to make the believer a true and effective witness
for Christ. (Luke 24: 49)
17. Believes that man in the
beginning was an instant and direct creation by God and the creation was a
literal 6 (24hour) day period. (Gen.1)
18. Believes that although
good works do not merit salvation, the new birth produces good works as a
visible fruit. (Rom.12:1)
19. Believes that at the new
birth he is made fully righteous in the sight of God in regards to all sin.
(John 5:24; I John 3:14)
20. Believes that the fruit of
true repentance is made manifest in a humble spirit, a broken and contrite
heart, and obedience to God's will and command, and a willingness to obey the
Lord in baptism (by immersion only) and in the partaking of the elements at the
Lord's Supper and in the consistent fellowshipping with the body of believers
with whom he is associated. (Acts 2:42-47)
21. Believes that at the new
birth he is given eternal life and that there is a distinct and important
difference between the positional state and the conditional state the true
believer. His "Position" before God is dependant wholly on the acceptance of
God's grace through faith. His "Condition" before God is dependant upon his
conversation (walk) with God. (John 3:16; Heb. 12:6-8)
22. Believes that although we,
as Christians, are in the world we are not of this world and thus have no
intimate questionable plans, dealings, or associations with those who are
non-Christian, and/or those who are recognized as or considered infidels,
unbelievers, and even those who may profess to be Christians, but who deny the
Scriptural truths and "deny the power thereof" and, actually, are none of
His.
23. Believes in the
pre-tribulation rapture of all believers and the pre-millennial return of
Christ. (I Thess. 4)
24. Believes that every person
may and can be saved if he but sincerely believes and accepts God's grace,
(Rom.10:13)
25. Believes in a literal
Heaven for all have been saved by grace through faith in Christ, and in a
literal Hell for the eternally lost. (Rev. 20,21)
26. Believes in the actual
existence and personality of Satan. (I Peter
5:8,9)
